CAT 2014-2016

So its the Time when again every CAT aspirant accelerates its preparation to the maximum.Keep Going Guys check the criteria to have an Idea about how to proceed For Ur CAT preparation.

IIM A

IIM B

After IIM Lucknow and IIM Calcutta announced its admission criteria, the admission criteria for IIM Bangalore are also out for the academic year 2014-16. IIM B will be normalizing your academic scores. The minimum cut for the first shortlist has been set as 90%ile.
IIMB believes that students who perform well in the academic program are typically those who have a consistently good academic record during their school, high school and graduation level, besides exhibiting sufficiently high aptitude as measured by the CAT. Therefore IIMB uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in school, high school and graduation programs as well as candidates' scores in CAT to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP program. Relevant work experience, if any, is also given weight in the selection.
IIM B would be considering the overall as well as sectional cut-off. The CAT 2013 cut-off criteria set by IIM is as follows:

For all candidates in the first shortlist the candidates' percentage scores in the 10th and 12th board exams will be adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th board for this purpose.
For all candidates in the first shortlist, the score/weight for work experience is calculated as:
Pre PI score for Work Experience
= 5x/36 if 0 < x < 36
= 5 if x >= 36
Where, x is the months of work experience up to September 2013, as captured in CAT application form.
Candidates with CA/ CS certifications are eligible for weight under professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weight under Professional course.
The maximum of the work experience score and the professional course score is considered for selection under a common weight of 10 for work experience or professional course.
The factors weight age is as follows:

The work experience score will be multiplied by the quality of experience score.  The quality of work experience score will be evaluated on a 5 point scale (0 - 0.5 -1 - 1.5 - 2) by each member of the panel during the interviews. The average quality of work experience score will be multiplied by the pre-PI work experience score and accordingly the
Work/professional experience component score (maximum score 5) used in Phase 1 will be revised in Phase 2 (maximum score 10)
The note content score (weight=7.5), note style score (weight=7.5), and the personal interview score (weight=20), after standardization across interview panels and sessions, will be added to the pre-PI total to arrive at the final aggregate score
Application through GMAT
Eligibility criteria: A candidate must have resided abroad for at least 18 months in the preceding three years (Jan 2011 to Dec 2013) and should not be/ have been in a position to appear for CAT2013. The GMAT code for IIMB PGP is Q9H-KK-49.
All candidates who have been recommended would be required to appear for a Personal Interview (PI) process, either in person or through remote video conferencing. The candidates appearing for the PI process in person would be interviewed along with the candidates using the CAT 2013 score, and the same PI process would be followed. For candidates appearing for the PI process through remote video conferencing would be required to submit their notes through email.
All candidates will be required to provide three confidential reference letters from their employers or faculty and this will also be used in the personal interview evaluation. For each of the three elements of evaluation during the PI process - Note Content, Note Style and Personal Interview - the average of the scores given by the interviewers will be considered.
The evaluating committee would again assess the performance of the candidates in the PI process and make a final offer. There would be no wait list and no fixed no. of seats for such candidates.

Galapagos

Few have explored the remote volcanic islands of the Galapagos archipelago, an otherworldly landscape inhabited by the world's largest tortoises and other fantastical creatures that inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

Soon it will take only the click of a mouse or finger swipe on a tablet to explore some of the Galapagos Islands' most remote areas, surrounding waters and unique creatures. California-based Google sent hikers to the Galapagos with
Street View gear called "trekkers," 42-pound computer backpacks with large, soccer ball-like cameras mounted on a tower.

Each orb has 15 cameras inside it that have
captured panoramic views of some of the most inaccessible places on the Galapagos. Crews from The Catlin Seaview Survey worked with Google to capture 360-degree views of selected underwater areas too. "We spent 10 days there hiking over trails ... and even down the crater of an active volcano," Raleigh Seamster, the project's leader for Google Maps said. "And these are islands, so half of the life there is under the water surface. So (we brought) Street View underwater to swim with sea lions, sharks and other marine animals."

Google is processing the footage and is trying to
stitch it together. It hopes to post it to Street View later this year. The cameras captured the nesting sites of blue-footed boobies, the red-throated "magnificent frigate birds," swimming hammerhead sharks and, of course, the island's giant tortoises.

Scientists working with Google are exploring the footage for other species and hope to update the pictures regularly throughout the years as they study the effects of invasive species,
tourism and climate change on the island's ecosystems. "We hope that children in classrooms around the world will be trying to discover what they can see in the images, even tiny creatures like insects," said Daniel Orellana, a scientist with the Charles Darwin Foundation.

"We can use this as an education experience for children, and there is a huge opportunity for rare discoveries." Orellana and
others supervised the Google trekkers and helped guide them to remote areas either off-limits to tourists or rarely visited because they are hard to reach.

They also captured images of the areas frequented by tourists so they can keep track of how this access is affecting the environment. Since launching Street View in 2007, Google has expanded from urban neighborhoods accessed easily by its mapping cars to more hard-to-access sites like the ocean floor, the Amazon rain forest and the Arctic.

"This whole project was part of Google's ongoing effort to build the most comprehensive and accurate map of the world," Seamster said.
